Fitting information
The usual procedure followed by Dilworth Audiology when fitting hearing aids is set out below. Some variation may be required to suit a person's particular circumstances.
HEARING TEST
If you have not had a recent hearing test and wish to try hearing aids, you will need an appointment for a full diagnostic hearing test.
The hearing test takes 30 minutes and costs $90.
INITIAL APPOINTMENT
This involves a discussion of your hearing needs and lifestyle. We
decide on a style of aids and the features you prefer. Your lifestyle
tends to determine what level of technology you will choose. When we
have decided what type of hearing aids will be suitable we take
impressions of your ears. There is a big range of different aids that
range in price from about $1500 up to $4500 per aid. We will help you
to get what you need at a price you can afford, and we always provide a
written quote.
This appointment takes 30 minutes and can be at the same session as the hearing test and is at no cost.
HEARING AID FITTING APPOINTMENT
If you decide to proceed with trialling hearing aids, a fitting
appointment is made about three weeks after the initial appointment. It
generally takes 2-3 weeks for the aids or moulds to be manufactured. At
the appointment, we will fit the hearing aids, which will be tuned to
accommodate your hearing loss. Generally they are set to a quieter
level while you are acclimatising to the aids.
You will be required to pay for your hearing aids in full at this appointment.
FOLLOW-UP APPOINTMENTS
After you have had the aids for a couple of weeks, an appointment is
required to check your progress. Fine-tuning may be necessary at this
time. Afterwards, we will decide whether to arrange further
appointments during the trial period.
The manufacturers of hearing aids allow a trial for several weeks, which gives you the opportunity to acclimatise to the aids and for us to do some fine-tuning if necessary. If, after trialling the aids, you decide to return them within the trial period, the cost of the aids is refundable. However we do charge a consultation fee to cover the appointments.
